Have you installed HPLIP Binary Plug-In? See site below. So that my printer can work properly for PRINTING and SCANNING both. But how to select these appropriate files is not known to me. These also asks to "Add profile" and asks to "Import file" having "Supported ICC Profiles". HP Laser Jet m1005 Printer Not calibrated
In assessing system setting > colours, it shows I also updated and upgraded the system but the scaning problem remained the same. During scan, most of the times the printer sounds physically doing the work of scaning by moving the light in the device, but on the scan window it appears a partial view of the page which is scanned. But the result is NIL ! In System Settings, it shows TWO printers icons. I removed completely and reinstalled HPLIP versions, Simple Scan, Kscanlite, SANE etc. I recently upgraded Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10, though before some 30 days or so, the scanner was also not working.
